Getting Started - Race Selection
The players need to select their colors, their races and the game board needs to be constructed. We'll assume that the player colors are already decided. Steve will be yellow, Melissa will be purple, and Nicholas will be red.
The first decision that needs to be made is to decide which player goes first. Decide anyway you want. Sometimes we just roll dice, having the highest numbered roll go first, and then proceed clockwise. For this example, we'll assume that Steve goes first, followed by Melissa and Nicholas.
Selecting races can be done in a couple of different ways. Three common options are:
- The standard rules say that you shuffle the 10 Race tiles (Home Systems) face-down and deal 1 to each player.
- Another approach allows players to take turns selecting a race from any of the available tiles.
- The technique I like to use for race selection is to deal 3 random face-down race tiles to a player and then let them choose 1 from those 3.
