Click somewhere in the empty desktop of the Squeak window and choose "appearance..." from the World menu.
Then choose "window colors..." from the appearance menu.

This will bring up a window colors selection window. From here you may choose a
window color "scheme" of "Bright", "Pastel" or
"White". The default is "Bright". You may also change
individual window colors from this window. For now, choose "Pastel"
by clicking once on the "Pastel" button at the top of the
window. You will see the colors
for each window become muted.

Close this window by clicking the "X" button once in the title bar of
the Windows Colors window.
Move on to Preferences.
